TikTok Gives Users Control Over AI Content: Less AI in Your Feed?

Tired of sifting through endless AI-generated content on your TikTok feed? You’re not alone! The social media giant is now handing users more control over the amount of artificial intelligence-generated material (AIGC) they see. Finally, you can fine-tune your For You page to better match your preferences. Here’s how.

## Taking Control of Your Feed

Tiktok has added AIGC adjustment options to its existing “Manage Topics” feature, empowering users to increase or decrease AI content visibility. Now, users who prefer authentic, human-created material can reduce AI content exposure through simple adjustments. Those interested in exploring synthetic media can opt to see more. The controls live within Settings under “Content Preferences,” where the “Manage Topics” menu contains sliders for different categories. Moving the AIGC slider determines how much artificial content enters your For You feed. Tiktok plans full deployment over the coming weeks.

## Fighting Back Against AI Imposters

But that’s not all! TikTok is also actively working to improve its AI content detection capabilities. The platform is testing “invisible watermarking” technology to strengthen its content identification capabilities. Only TikTok can detect these markers, making removal significantly more difficult. This dual approach aims to deliver more consistent labeling across the platform while maintaining compatibility with cross-platform standards.

## Investing in AI Education

Beyond technical measures, TikTok has committed $2 million to an AI literacy fund. Organizations like nonprofit Girls Who Code will receive support to develop educational content teaching users about artificial intelligence literacy and safety considerations. This investment underscores the importance of understanding and navigating the evolving landscape of AI-generated content, ensuring users are equipped to make informed decisions about what they consume online. With these new controls and educational initiatives, TikTok aims to strike a balance between embracing the potential of AI and empowering users to curate their own authentic and engaging experience.
