From Self-Directed Learning to Global Recognition: Dizzo’s UI/UX Journey

2–4 minutes

From a quiet child who never imagined breaking into innovation events to a globally recognized UI/UX designer, Dizzo Violeta’s story is one of determination, self-directed learning, and the power of embracing challenges. Born in Madiun but growing up in Banten, Dizzo was never exposed to a competitive environment. However, his parents’ aspirations for him to have better life options and his own curiosity about technology led him to pursue a career in informatics engineering.

## Unplanned Competition

Dizzo’s first competition experience was unplanned, and he was not confident about joining. He was chosen to replace a senior student who had to withdraw from a web development competition at the Banten Provincial level. Although he didn’t win, this experience became a turning point for him. He began to see competitions as a space for learning, rather than a win-or-lose arena.

## Learning UI/UX at FOSTI UMS

After graduating from vocational high school, Dizzo chose to study at Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta (UMS) due to its proximity to his grandmother’s home in Karanganyar. He was drawn to the Informatics Engineering Program, which was closely related to his vocational school major. Within the program, Dizzo discovered the world of interfaces, or User Interface/User Experience (UI/UX), through the Forum Open Source Teknik Informatika (FOSTI) UMS. He joined FOSTI at the beginning of his university years and was invited by a senior he met during orientation activities.

At FOSTI, Dizzo found his passion in UI/UX, utilizing tools like Figma and Canva for self-directed learning. He gradually took on greater roles within the organization, eventually becoming the head of the UI/UX division. As head of the division, he not only managed work programs but also served as an instructor in internal UI/UX classes that were open to the public.

## Designing a Health Application

Dizzo’s organizational activities opened the door for him to enter competitions. He began with an internal campus competition, where he won third place in the Himafos UMS Training Challenge in collaboration with Odama Studio in 2023. Starting in his fourth semester, Dizzo regularly participated in competitions, mostly in application innovation and digital business. One of his most memorable experiences was the International Entrepreneurship Festival of Business Administration (IEFBA) Nextplay 2025, where his team won third place at the international level.

In the competition, Dizzo was responsible for designing the application prototype, from structure and visual interface to user experience flow. The product developed was an integrated health application combining nutrition features, consultations, and a healthy product marketplace. Dizzo’s achievements in various international events through health- and nutrition-based application innovations have led him to win a gold medal at the World Youth Invention and Innovation Award, as well as a gold medal and The Indonesian Young Scientist Association Grand Prize at the World Invention Competition and Exhibition 2025.

Dizzo and his partner are now working on adding an AI-based health consultation feature to the previously developed application. This feature is designed to provide reference-based answers, rather than mere speculation. Their goal is not to replace doctors but to provide easy and free early access. The application is now being prepared for participation in Thailand Inventors’ Day 2026.

In addition to actively competing, Dizzo made the most of the opportunity to join the Certified Independent Study and Internship Program (MSIB) of Kampus Merdeka batch 7 in 2024. Dizzo was accepted through the Independent Study track at PT Lingkaran Edukasi Kreatif
